Estimated vs billed college cost in Texas

Sticker is not the bill. Average net is still an estimate. Your award letter is the number that matters.

Texas families ask two different questions and search sites mash them together: what is the published price, and what will we actually write checks for?

Every cost figure in Pathwise is labeled Estimated. In-state tuition is a sticker. Average net price is College Scorecard's average for students who received aid in that cohort. It is not your package.

A public flagship can look cheap on sticker and still surprise you after housing. A private campus can look impossible on sticker and come in closer after merit. Compare the gap. Then open the official net-price calculator.

Do not treat any of this as a billed amount. TASFA, FAFSA, and the school's own calculator beat a national average.

Is College Scorecard net price what we will pay?
No. It is an average for a past aid cohort. Use it to compare orders of magnitude, then verify on the official calculator.
Why do you say Estimated on every dollar figure?
Because we will not pretend precision we do not have. Empty or Estimated is better than a fake exact bill.
